1954 PACKARD CARIBBEAN

Packard released the new Caribbean in 1953, the brain child of then company president James Nance; part of his effort to restore Packard?s pure luxury image. For the 1954 model year Packard added flat top rear wheel arches (giving the car a longer look) standard two tone paint, radio, heater, power seats and power windows. Engine capacity was also increased to 359 cubic inches from the ?53s 327. Horsepower was also increased to an incredible 212; making this Packard straight 8 America?s most potent post war straight 8 cylinder engine. Packard brochures exclaimed ?There is no more glamorous car than the new Packard Caribbean?. The Packard Caribbean was inspired by the 1952 New York Auto Show concept car the ?Pan American? and was a very limited production car from 1953 through 1956, though not offered in hardtop form until the 1956 model year. In 1954 only 400 examples of the Caribbean were manufactured making these cars, particularly good examples, very rare indeed. This car: This 1954 Packard Caribbean having been lovingly restored to an extraordinarily high standard was judged ?Best of Show-Post War? at the 2007 National Members Meet. The car is finished in White over Black with matching interior. The car runs and drives as well as it shows and is absolutely ready for show or tour. This particular Packard Caribbean may just be one of, if not the finest, example available on today?s market. Absolutely spectacular!
